Smallville, Clark Kent/Lex Luthor

Dodecal Challange #6: "A Smallville character has a task to accomplish that he or she does not really want to do. What is it, and how is it resolved?"

A much shorter variation of a scene from my upcoming fic, "High Beams". A "sneak preview," as it were.

"You should go," said Clark. "She's waiting."

"She's asleep," said Lex casually. He ran one finger along the smooth quilt of the bed.

"So, go." Clark turned over on his side, facing the wall. "I'll be okay. You can drive me home in a few."

Lex sat down beside him, and kicked off his shoes. "Move over."

"Your parents deserve a medal, you know. What were you doing out there? Tell me. Bare feet, sweats..."

"Sleepwalking, I guess," Clark swallowed hard before continuing. "I can't, Lex. I can't because I don't know."

Lex smoothed a palm over Clark’s fleece-clad thigh. "Turn around." When Clark did, he held his gaze. "If you're in trouble, I want to help."

Clark shook his head. "You can't. Helen's waiting."

Lex's gaze darkened. "I don't care."

"Then, stay," Clark trembled as he spoke.

Lex bit his lip, and nodded.
