Lex found the basketball yard deserted, and slammed a hand on the steering wheel with a muttered curse.

"Lex!" Clark was beside him as he opened the door.

"Where's Lucas? I need to pick him up NOW."

"Pete gave him a ride back to your place."

"That trip took less than an hour. I expected you guys to be all over each other around the hoop when I got back." Lex thinned his lips and glanced at his watch.

"We were, for awhile. Lucas...uh...kind of had an accident."

"Accident? He's pretty tough. Must've been serious for him to call it quits so soon."

"I messed up, Lex. Guess I don't like sharing you. I was showing off and his arm got busted. Nothing broken, though."

Lex grinned and sighed. "“I have business to take care of, but sounds like I'd better come back later."
