What follows is a dodecal version of a longer WIP. A "Sneak Preview," as it were. If it seems to break off abruptly, blame that pesky word limit! No, I'm kidding. Blame me.

Lex leaned against his car, makeshift dinner at the Kents' over.

He'd never felt so welcome here. Amazing what a check for $350,000 could buy. A house. A farm. A family.

Pocket change to him. Too bad it couldn't buy Clark back.

He'd blown his chance at that long ago.

"Don't talk about it, Lex."

"Clark, I'm sorry."

He'd been so sure Clark had wanted it, too.

"Don't worry about it."

Lex hadn't touched him again.

"Still here?" Clark's hand, gentle on his arm.

Lex shrugged, looking off at the harvest moon.

"I love you," Lex turned sharply toward soft voice, earnest gaze, caught his breath.

"I was a kid, then, Lex. I'm not, now. Give me a second chance?"

"Clark, today's second chance was for your family. I wasn't trying to buy you."

"You don't have to. I'm giving myself, for free."
