Mother's Day lunch, a "Jonathan and Clark" production, had come off with no disasters. After Martha had blushed, hugged them both, and gone upstairs for a rare nap, Clark had wandered out to the loft.
And drew the woven blanket through his fingers. Blues, greens, metallic gold, with a cryptic pattern woven in. Like no colors or fabric seen on earth.
From his birth mother. His heart tightened.
Had she loved him? Then why had she sent him away?
Clark feeling a hand on his shoulder, started. "Lex."
"How was lunch?"
"Good. Made her happy."
Lex smiled, and touched the blanket. "What's this?"
"Just a blanket." Clark fought the impulse to slip it behind his back.
"Yours? Lex picked it up, assessing its quality like a jewelry appraiser. "Nice."
Clark nodded.
"You can tell it was made with love."
Their eyes met, and Clark smiled.
