"Damn it, Lex. Can't you ever drive at normal speed?"

"I *can,* Clark, I just don't."

"Well, you can afford repairs. We can't." Clark fumed. "Look at that dent. And, the tire's ruined!"

"I'll pay for it," Lex vowed.

"Dad'll want to know how it happened. This'll really set us back. Since you stayed with us, he almost seems to have started liking you. I was hoping--"

"We knew that couldn't continue."

"It could have. If you'd been careful."

"Look, another car. They can--Clark. It's your mother."

"Mom!"

"What happened, guys?" Martha got out, shading her eyes, surveying the damage.

"Lex didn't see the stop sign. What will Dad say?"

"Nothing. A cat ran across the road, Lex swerved to avoid it, and couldn't help hitting our truck. I saw it." A wink.

"Thanks, Mom."
