Too quiet on the farm, with Clark gone. Jonathan could see the blasted ruins of the storm cellar from where he stood.
He hadn’t meant to lash out at Clark that way. He told himself he’d been worried for Martha, but it was more than that.
He worked hard, and all this baggage of Clark’s had taken its toll. One complication after another: x-ray, heat vision, red meteor rocks, alien prophecies. Between Clark and Lex Luthor, it was lucky he’d managed to keep his family together at all.
Too much responsibility, sometimes. Had Joseph the carpenter ever felt this way? Had he ever gotten angry at what was expected of him?
Could a man be blamed for wanting a normal life?
Unlike Joseph, he’d driven his son away.
Jonathan leaned on the fence, took a deep breath, and buried his face in his hands.
