Spoilers for "Covenant"

I

Clark wheeled, unsure whether the sinking, sick feeling came from within, or from the hunk of green kryptonite on display behind too-flimsy plexiglass. Octagon, giant photo of himself...the green k made him angrier than any of the other stuff, except maybe the way Lex kept talking to him over his shoulder in that calm, clinical voice. He swallowed hard, choking back bile in his aching throat, suddenly cold all over.

Lex was droning something about his father's eccentricities, and not being able to explain things. About "all this" being about him. Yeah, right. Saying he wasn't guilty of anything but curiosity.

All this clarified everything. Clark halted on the stairs but didn't look back as he spat the words over his shoulder.

"How could you do this? I loved you."

The sentence ended in a sob as he slammed the door behind him.

II

Lex stood in shadows. Not surprised, he told himself, at Clark's discovery, aware it had only been a matter of time. He could calm him down, turn it around, make it Clark's problem instead of his. With an explanation, he might even understand.

Lies? Pot calling the kettle black. Wasn't Clark an expert at these? But Lex refrained from pointing this out. Lex focused on not caving under the accusations. Just on watching a digital auto careen crazily and smash through a guardrail over and over, dragging a small red figure with it.

Trust Clark to go emotional, colder, angrier than usual, playing the low-blow "father" card once again. Predictable, but the reply died before he could deliver it. Though he wouldn't let himself recognize, much less process, the pain in Clark's gaze and voice.

"I love you," Lex called as the door closed.
