Challenge 7: "Surprise!"
"A Smallville character (or characters) receives a surprise. A surprise that's either welcome, unwelcome, or both. Describe what happens!"

This dodecal was sparked by and is a mini-sequel to Two Secrets by fajrdrako. Elizabeth wrote this story to stop my nagging her, I think. No, just kidding. The inspiration was all her own. But it had occurred to both of us that Lionel might be the father of Martha's baby, and even though she had other WIPS to finish, she humored me by completing this posthaste.

I always wondered how Lex and Clark might go about bonding over the knowledge Clark receives from Martha in this story, and this humorous dodecal is my first prewrite. Would like to give it a serious, more detailed treatment later. Unless Elizabeth would care to do it, better?

Clark was biting his lip, and Lex noticed his hands were shaking. Lex’s keyboarding fingers slowed. "What is it?"

"I talked with Mom this afternoon. I stayed strong for her, Lex, but I’m pretty weirded out."

"You’re sounding like Chloe," Lex smiled. "There’s a problem? Is she all right?" Martha was six months into a pregnancy complicated by years of infertility and being in her forties, and Lex knew Clark had been worried from the beginning.

"She is, except..." Clark stammered and blushed. "We’re going to be big brothers, Lex."

"Yeah, nice of you, Clark, but--"

"Not just me. Both of us. You even more than me."

Lex just stared at him. Clark leaned on the desk, fixing him with a desperate gaze.

"I mean *really*. My dad’s not the father. Yours is."

"Funny, Clark."

"It’s no joke. Lex, wake up. Lex!"
