"Sweetie," said Martha, "I need help."

Clark shook his head. "Sorry. Plans with Lex."

"Just for an hour, and bring Lex back for dinner."

"Well, okay."

"First, I need you to zip to Fordman's for white thread so I can finish the kitchen curtains. I can't stand plaid one more day!"

"Here." Clark handed it over.

"Clark, honey, I needed needles, too."

"There. Okay?"

"Now, we rearrange furniture."

"Mom, without superpowers, I'd be exhausted. Tried six different arrangements; now it's back the way it was."

"One more thing. I really need... a hot fudge sundae from Dairy Queen."

Clark glared. "Mom, if I were a regular guy, you'd have to buy me a car."

Martha pinched his cheek. "You have gifts, we might as well use them." She sat back in the recliner with the newspaper and took a long sip of iced tea.
